Wavelength – Snorkel the Outer Reef

Wavelength is the only cruise in Port Douglas dedicated just to snorkeling the Outer Reef. The Wavelength vessel is a monohull of 18 meters custom designed for snorkeling and with a maximum of only 30 guests guaranteeing there is ample space for everyone.

Wavelength has access to 20 different sites which extend over three reef systems. These are Tongue Reef, Opal Reef and St Crispin. The full day cruise of the Outer Reef will visit 3 unique sites. The sites are chosen to suit the conditions each day, this ensures guests experience the best possible underwater visibility.

If you are particularly lucky you will get to visit Turtle Bay on a satellite reef off Tongue. This site is exclusive to Wavelength and due to the stunning nature of this site you are almost always guaranteed to swim alongside turtles. The 90-minute trip from Port Douglas to the edge of the continental shelf passes by Low Isles.

The crew will personally fit everyone out with the correct snorkeling gear and instruct everyone on the simple techniques of snorkeling.  First time snorkelers and children receive special attention and are guided whilst they easily access the water from the huge rear duckboard.

Marine biologists offer guided snorkel tours in which many different sea creatures and corals are pointed out. Confident snorkelers are encouraged to explore at their own leisure and pace.Based on the fact that 90% of the reef’s diversity takes place in the top four meters of the water, just about everything you would ever want to see of the Great Barrier Reef, can be seen by snorkeling.

Wavelength is committed to sustainable management of the reef and as a guest of Wavelength you are able to participate in the research and monitoring program.
